H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Uvais

Former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary    


Mr. Ibrahim Uvais arrived in Tokyo to assume his duties as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Maldives to Japan on 13 April 2018. He presented his letter of Credence to the Emperor of Japan, His Majesty Akihito on 19 June 2018.

Mr. Uvais served in the Maldives civil and foreign service and has extensive experience in the fields of economic policy and diplomacy. He joined the Maldives’ civil service in 1995, as an Assistant Secretary at the Foreign Relations Section of the President’s Office. He later also served as Administrative Officer at the Financial Affairs Section, and as Assistant Director at the Economic Policy Section at the President’s Office. In 2006 he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was posted as First Secretary of the Maldives Embassy in Malaysia until 2009. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador, Mr. Uvais worked as an Organisation Development Consultant in Malaysia from 2015 to 2018.

Mr. Uvais pursued academic interests in disciplines of commerce and diplomacy throughout his professional career. He initially completed a Bachelor of Commerce from the Flinders University of South Australia and a Master in Business Administration from the University of Western Sydney. He later obtained a Master in Contemporary Diplomacy from the University of Malta and Postgraduate Diploma in Business and Commerce from Monash University Malaysia. From 2010 he has been on the online faculty of DiploFoundation a non-profit foundation which works to increase the role of small and developing states through capacity development and training.
