The government of Maldives remains committed to its vision of achieving net-zero by 2030 as put forward by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, during the 74th Session of the United National General Assembly in 2019. Energy transition, through the rapid scale up of Renewable Energy in the country, remains a key pillar in realizing this vision and ensuring a safe, sustainable, resilient and prosperous future for all.   

 In this context, the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology, Republic of Maldives is hosting a Renewable Energy Investor Conference that aims to showcase the upcoming solar PV projects in the country. The conference will shed light on the most recent developments in solar PV and associated supporting infrastructure deployments such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and associated grid upgrading, along with interactive sessions to seek investor feedback on project structuring and commercial aspects to facilitate an investor-friendly climate.   

This conference will bring together stakeholders and investors with an objective of showcasing the pipeline of solar PV projects on offer and obtain bidder and lender community insights and feedback for bid structuring of future projects.   

Companies and relevant stakeholders involved in renewable energy technologies, project development, and investment are invited to attend the Renewable Energy Conference in the Maldives.   

The event is scheduled to take place from June 7-8, 2023 and the participants have the option of joining either virtually or in-person at Bandos Island Resort.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid, concluded his official visit to Tokyo, Japan today.

During his visit, Minister Shahid participated in the Munich Leader’s Meeting and in a roundtable on international and regional peace and security. He also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Hayashi Yoshimasa, and Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, Enrique Manalo, and engaged with other senior officials and security practitioners attending the Munich Leader's Meeting.

Minister Shahid was accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mariyam Midhfa Naeem, Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hussain Jahhaz, and Assistant Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Shujau.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Hayashi Yoshimasa, in Tokyo today.

Foreign Minister Shahid conveyed his appreciation for the continuous support and assistance provided to the people of Maldives by the Government of Japan during the past 5 decades and reiterated the long-standing and friendly relationship between Maldives and Japan. Foreign Minister Hayashi noted the strong bilateral relations that exists between the two countries and expressed his appreciation to the Maldivian Government for its cooperation with Japan on international and regional issues, especially in realizing the ‘Free and Open Indo Pacific’ vision.

The two ministers reflected on the close historical relationship between Maldives and Japan, and concurred to collaboratively cooperate towards further enhancement of the bilateral and multilateral relations.

Minister Shahid was accompanied at the meeting by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Ambassador of Maldives to Japan Hassan Sobir, Deputy Ambassador Mohamed Ameeth Ahmed Manik, Joint Secretery Mariyam Midhfa Naeem and Assistant Director Mohamed Shujau.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid, participated in the Munich Leader’s Meeting held in Tokyo, Japan from 15-16 May 2023.

Over the course of two days, Minister Shahid delivered remarks and contributed towards discussions on various topics, including the Indo-Pacific security architecture, non-traditional security threats, multilateralism and partnerships, and security in the digital age. He also met and engaged with Ministers, CEOs, journalists, and security practitioners on a wide range of issues.

The Munich Leader’s Meeting held in Tokyo was held against the background of the G7 Hiroshima Summit, scheduled to be held later this month under the Japanese Presidency of the G7. It gave leaders in the Indo-Pacific an opportunity to connect with their counterparts in the West to discuss how best to ensure regional and global stability. The debates and discussions were held under Chatham House rule with a limited group of high-level decision makers and senior experts from around the world.
