Ambassador Uvais meets with the Governor of Fukushima Prefecture

Ambassador of Maldives to Japan H.E.Mr. Ibrahim Uvais met the Governor of Fukushima Prefecture Mr. Masao Uchibori today during a two days tour of the prefecture.

During the meeting Ambassador Uvais and Governor Uchibori discussed disaster risk management, and economic revitalization efforts of Fukushima Prefecture since the Great East Japan Earthquake and nuclear accident of 2011. Further Ambassador Uvais expressed deep sympathy on behalf of the People and the Government of Maldives to the people of Fukushima Prefecture especially to those who have lost loved ones during the unfortunate disasters of 11 March 2011. Following the disaster, the Maldives donated 780,000 cans of tuna fish as humanitarian relief assistance to the people of Japan.

The two-days tour was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Fukushima Prefecture for ambassadors and officials from foreign embassies and delegations stationed in Japan. The tour showcased the recovery and economic revitalization programs at medical and sports facilities and local industries including agricultural and fisheries sectors in Fukushima.
